Comme Des Garçons FW24 - Rescore

This meandering composition underscores CDG’s exaggerated silhouettes by imagining a world in which their billowing, unwieldy structure is the norm. The otherworldly nature of the CDG FW24 runway show lent itself to a synthetic, futuristic yet organic soundscape, transporting the viewer to another world with both sight and sound. Kindred to compositions by famed artists such as Nils Frahm and Four Tet, the snaking synthesizer-driven score surrounds the viewer with a rich, slowly evolving arpeggio, crescendoing into a massive wall of sound at around the 5:20 mark and fading back down around 6:30, making the 8-minute runtime feel like it just went by. While the arpeggio constantly pushes forward, it offers surprises to a keen ear––swells of filter envelopes opening, modulations that are “out” of key, blistering distortion. The piece was synchronized to both the beginning and end titles to lend a satisfying feeling of completion and simplicity, playing against the complexity of the designs.

Gucci Summer Stories - Rescore

A cool, relaxed poolside vibe weaves throughout the rescore of this Gucci Spring/Summer 2023 campaign video. The watery slide guitar mirrors the dappled light of the pool, while the brighter lead that comes in reflects the hot sun of the tropical location. The playful instrumental begins seemingly underwater, and comes into focus in tandem with the moment the subject breaks the plane of the surface of the pool. The warm guitar, synth, bass and drums provide a pillowy textural world that mirrors the luxe fabrics of the product. While the score is relaxed and laid-back, it adds an emotional undercurrent by refraining from going in an overly tropical and literal direction. By employing a minor chord on the turnaround, the score hints at a possible underlying tension of fleeting summer romance––adding an alluring edge to the summery quality of the visual.

Short Art Film - Original Score

The darker side of love––yearning, heartache––served as the inspiration for this original score commissioned by the artist. The score embodies these emotions by using an eerie hollow-sounding synth patch created on the Roland Juno-106, a 1980’s synthesizer, combined with elements of foley recorded in a vintage elevator. The narration/spoken word was done by the subject in the video, Vivian, a friend of the artist. As soon as she finishes reciting the poem, the synth blooms and expands into a warm, lilting and cathartic soundscape, resulting in a powerfully ambiguous ending.
